A Date Worse Than Death – new novelette

March 8, 2011

I’ve been working on a new short story called “A Date Worse Than Death”. It’s a paranormal romance. I do like punny titles, but I guess I need to stay away from them. I don’t think my writing is particularly comedic, but this one is on the light-hearted side. I thought of the title first then built the story around it. It started with the question: What could be a date worse than death?

That’s how Ginny North came to be. She’s on a blind date with a weird guy, but then she meets the man of her dreams, Pete Adams. Then she starts thinking Pete’s the crazy one when he tells her who her blind date really is.

That’s all I’ll say right now. It’ll run about 8 or 9,000 11,000 words. I still have one chapter to finish it up. This is written as Lanette Curington, and because of its short length and it covers only a few hours in time, there are no sex scenes. It’s all about the romance–how Ginny and Pete meet, how their attraction builds, and how their relationship starts. If this one goes over well, there may be a few more Ginny and Pete stories, to develop their relationship. Pete’s sideline work calls for more adventures, and Ginny’s plucky enough to join in and help. 😉
